Cumbrian farmer traps arm in machine prompting Air Ambulance rescue

Date: 30-Jun-2010

When the crew from the Great North Air Ambulance arrived shortly before noon yesterday, the man had managed to release his arm but it was badly injured.

An Air Ambulance spokesman said: "There was an awful lot of blood being controlled by a towel around his arm, so we left it there and worked around it.

He was lucky not to lose his arm."He had caught it on the back of the tractor where the tow bar is. There was a linkage mechanism and one of the arms of it had come up and mangled his arm inside it.'

The farmer was treated at the scene with pain relief, and his arm splinted to keep it in place whilst the Air Ambulance took him to Lancaster infirmary for further treatment.
