Air Ambulance celebrates fifth birthday

Filed under: News — Posted by: Richard on January 30, 2012

The Air Ambulance serving the Isle of Wight and Hampshire celebrates its fifth birthday this year on the 1st July, and the Mayor of Southampton launched the birthday celebrations when he visited the charity’s headquarters recently.

The forthcoming year will see many festivities and events take place to raise awareness and funds for this life-saving service.

Councillor Terry Matthews, the Right Worshipful Mayor of Southampton, visited the head office of the charity in Kings Park Road, Southampton, to launch the celebrations and to learn more about the air ambulance service and the work it does in conjunction with other emergency services.

The Chairperson of the Trustees for the charity is Councillor Barry Lispcombe who, together with his wife, Linda, welcomed the Mayor to the head office. After introducing the Mayor to the staff and volunteers, Councillor Lispcome escorting him on a tour of the premises.

2012 is a very important and exciting year in the short but successfully history of the air ambulance service in the counties of the Isle of Wight and Hampshire which have combined together to provide this emergency cover. Many events are planned in both counties to publicise the work that the life-saving service does in providing helicopters and highly trained specialist paramedic crews.

Some of the festivities have become annual fundraising events but others are special events aimed solely at celebrating the fifth birthday of the charity.

Details of all the events planned for 2012 can be found on the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance website.
