Local air ambulance charity in volcanic fundraiser

The Hertfordshire and Essex Air Ambulance charity is going to receive a timely boost in funding, with the announcement of its latest fund raising event.

This year’s challenge is set to take place in Italy, as a group of hardy adventurers climb their way up Mount Vesuvius, Stromboli and Etna.

Those taking part are already well on their way to raising money, with local businesses, fami, and friends all eager to sponsor those taking on the three peaks. Many of those taking part are patients who have been helped in the past, though many are simply doing it for the good cause.

One such person doing this is Suzanne Harvey. The 34-year-old is eager for a new challenge, having managed to lose three stone in weight over recent years:

“I am really looking forward to it.

“…the Herts and Essex Air Ambulance … is one of those charities you never know when you are going to need…”

The cost of air ambulances is something which is not often thought about by many but, with no central funding they rely on donations. Private air ambulances, for longer ranging rescues offer in a different way, but these can often be sustained insurance policies; a luxury that UK based regional services do not have.

Hopefully, those taking on the challenge will only be buried in thousands of pounds in donations, rather than thousands of tonnes of ash like the residents of Pompeii were some 2,000 years ago.
