Morocco bound for air ambulance fund raisers

A climbing challenge lies in store for anyone who wishes to raise funds for an air ambulance charity based in Wiltshire.

The charity’s second global challenge sees an opportunity to visit Morocco and climb Mount Toubkal.

It will take place between the 1st and 5th of October when 20 challengers will be doing their part for the cause.

Challengers are expected to raise at least £1,500 with £515 of that to cover the flight, accommodation, food, a doctor and the trek itself. The air ambulance will receive the remaining £985.

2011’s challenger raised over £30,000 towards the air ambulance charity, which partly relies on activities such as this as the Government doesn’t provide them with any funding. Their costs every year for operating the service is in the region of £700,000.

Without those funds, they wouldn’t have been able to carry out the 801 rescues they made last year.

The lady responsible for the air ambulance’s fund raising duties, Caorline Corrigan, says that whilst anyone can take on the challenge, a certain level of fitness is required to keep up the pace:

“Climbing Mount Toubkal is a challenge for all abilities and allows you to do the complete challenge in five days. You do need to be of a reasonable fitness but can be a great starting point for people who’ve never completed a challenge like this before and ideal for those who are seasoned adrenaline seekers who want to add the highest Atlas Mountain to their list of achievements.”
