Opposing football fans join forces for air ambulance charity

An Air Ambulance charity, along with Bradford Burns Unit, will be benefiting from two fund-raising runs by Yorkshire-based football fans Matthew Kellett and Chris Lane. The two supporters may be on opposite sides when it comes to their beloved sport but they will be working together for these events.

The Air Ambulance is a cause which is important to both clubs and that support will see the two fund-raisers run from Huddersfield Town’s stadium to Bury, who will be hosting the team on March the 3rd. The run will cover 28 miles.

The second run will take place later in the season from Macclesfield Town’s stadium to Bradford City on April the 21st which will be by far, the longer run, at 48 miles.

Bradford Burns Unit is the charity of choice for City ever since the fire in 1985 and the Air Ambulance charity’s “Keep It Up” campaign has received support by Huddersfield for the last couple of years.

Lane said that this is not the first time the two rivals have run in the same race.

“We did the Leeds Abbey Dash together and then had a joke about doing something with the two clubs. A day later Matt told me he’d sorted it! We’re hoping to reach Gigg Lane between 2pm and 2.30pm and finish on the centre circle. I’m going to be doing it in claret and amber so I expect plenty of banter from the Huddersfield fans! Huddersfield have bent over backwards for us and there’s going to be a bucket collection outside their ground. Hopefully we’ll be able to do the same when we arrange something at City”.
