Raising funds: It’s a long way to Azerbaijan

Filed under: Air Ambulance Costs and Fundraising — Posted by: Richard on March 12, 2012

Two Yorkshire based motorcyclists are in preparation for a 7,000 mile challenge in order to raise funds estimated around £20,000 for causes close to their heart. 47 year old Mick Griffin and 56 year old Bob McPherson will be riding in 28 different countries in the same number of days to raise money for Unicef and an air ambulance charity.

They will be setting off on their motorbikes from Rodley in West Yorkshire with Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, their destination. They are setting a target of arriving there for the Eurovision Song Contest before making their way back home. The Eurovision takes place on May the 26th.

Mick and Bob have called the challenge, ‘There and Baku’, incorporating their half-way target in the title.

Some of the countries they will be visiting along the way include Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Georgia.

Bob is only too aware of the challenge that lies ahead of them but is keen to give it his best for the cause.

“It’s a tough challenge, but one that is really worthwhile. We’ve both done a fair bit of motorcycling, but nothing on this scale before and the 28 day time limit makes it even more of a test. Hopefully people will want to see if we can make it or not and we’ll raise loads of money for our two charities.”

The boys will begin raising funds at the first event, to be hosted by Farsley Constitutional Club, on the 9th March in Farsley.
