UK Air Ambulance service announces its own App

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) service in the UK has launched its own iPhone App, enabling its supporters to stay in touch with the life saving missions the teams are sent out to.

Available on the Apple iTunes store for just £1.99, the App allows supporters of the vital charity to track the progress of the Air Ambulance’s two helicopters each week. It is the first of its kind in the UK, though other European Air Ambulance services have similar tools.

It has been designed with a host of other features too, to ensure it appeals to all ages.

Explaining the move, YAA Marketing and Communications Manager Abby McClymont said:

“Social media is (an) important tool for the YAA and the next step in our strategy was to launch an iPhone App.”

Features available through the App allow its users to have exclusive access to the flights of HM98 and HM99 and the latest facts and figures from the charity. There are video clips too, whilst an innovative feature includes real life recording of radio communications.

It is hoped the App will boost the charity’s awareness on a local, national and international scale. All the money made from the App will go directly to charity, but it is also hoped it will act as a fundraiser directly too.

Available now from the iTunes store, those interested in downloading it simply need to search for “Yorkshire Air Ambulance”. Priced at £1.99, the charity is eager to let everyone know that all monies are directed straight to the service.
