Cancer sufferers travel without travel insurance

Date: 24-Apr-2010

According to research by UK cancer charity Macmillan, eight per cent of people who have suffered from cancer have had resort to traveling without cover as a result of &lquot;overpriced&rquot; travel insurance because of past medical conditions.

Despite some specialist travel insurers saying that they can provide cover at affordable premiums for those who have been diagnosed with cancer or other critical conditions, one former cancer patient who set up her own company to address the issue — disagrees, claiming that many insurance companies are 'insensitive'.

At IAS Medical we regularly repatriate cancer patients by air ambulance throughout Europe and we have seen first hand the problems patients experience in obtaining finance from insurers.

We strongly recommend cancer suffers obtain specialist travel insurance and ensure they go the extra mile in disclosing their medical history.
