Air Ambulance "Bags a Bra" for charity

Date: 03-Jun-2010

Last week saw the annual Bag A Bra Day, which saw residents hand over their unwanted undergarments to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Like most textiles, bras can be recycled and raise funds for the Air Ambulance, which relies heavily on fundraising efforts throughout the year.  But Bag A Bra day, which took place on Thursday, May 27, has been extended to a year-long event with collection bins set up across the borough.

Companies, groups and individuals from across Hampshire have joined forces for the charity — from as far afield as New Zealand.

The bras are shipped off to West Africa giving local women the opportunity to buy and wear bras, which can be used in a number of ways but perhaps most importantly to boost their self esteem, say charity bosses.

As well as this, it raises much needed funds for Hampshire's Air Ambulance.John Perry, CEO of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, said:

"This is a fantastic initiative which is so worthwhile and has advantages for us all."

Our recycling partners Bag It Up have arranged for these bras to be sent out to Africa, and we are pleased to be able to do something or others, whilst raising funds to help keep your Air Ambulance flying.

Please help by bagging up all our unwanted bras and placing them in one of our yellow recycling banks, and we can give you the location of your nearest bank.

"Don't worry if you cant do this now, as we will continue to collect bras throughout the year.'

At IAS Medical we are constantly striving to improve our Air Ambulance Service and fully endorse the fantastic work done by others.
