The family of a man from Overseal, seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in Bali in July 2011, is celebrating the news that his young fiancee will soon be able to be by his bedside.
Matthew Taylor has been in a coma since the accident, failing to regain consciousness throughout his treatment abroad, and since being repatriated to the UK.
There has been significant response from him though, when his fiancee, Handayani ‘Anda’ Nurul has been speaking to him. Up until now though, she has been unable to speak to him person, having to rely on the phone, unable to secure a visa.
She has been more than 7,000 miles away in her home of Jakarta. Up until the accident, Anda and Matthew had spent most of their time together, having met whilst they were both working in Bali.
Following the accident, Anda stayed by Matthew’s side as he was moved from hospital to hospital, but was refused the opportunity to come back in the air ambulance that flew Mr Taylor and his family home.
Following the intervention of a local immigration specialist though, the family and Ms Narul have been able to reverse the ruling, opening the way for her to come to the country.
The family of Matthew is said to be “over the moon” whilst Anda has been laughing and crying over the decision.
The visa is yet to come through, but a decision over whether it will be a three or six month permit is expected within a matter of weeks.
